How To Create A Google Analytics Account?

Step 1: Head to the official website, google.com/analytics, and create a Google Analytics account. Then, select the “Start for free.”

Step 2: After doing so, use your Google account to log in. You can use the same Google account that you use for platforms such as Google Calendar, Gmail, etc.

Step 3: In case you don’t have a Google account, you can simply set up a new one by clicking on “Create Account.”

Step 4: After logging in, go to “Setup for free.” Then give your account a name and select the suggested options.

Step 5: Select whether you want to evaluate an app or a website. You can also choose to do it for both.

Step 6: Once you do that, enter the name and URL of your website. Next, choose an industry and a time zone from the drop-down menus.

Step 7: Create and accept the terms and conditions for your country or region by clicking “Create.”

How To Install Tracking Code For Google Analytics?

You can get the Tracking code if you wish to see reports and data on the platform. Here’s how you do it:

Step 1: After you create a Google Analytics account, the tracking code should show automatically. 

Step 2: If it doesn’t, go to the “Admin” tab in the bottom left corner. Select “Tracking Info,” then “Tracking Code.” That’ll direct you to a page where you’ll be able to take the tracking code to install on your website.

You can duplicate this tracking ID if you use a website builder like Weebly, Wix, Shopify, or Squarespace. 

You can copy and paste it into the admin panel. Then, simply click on “Marketing links” to add the tracking ID to a Wix website. After that, you can link to Google Analytics and paste the tracking ID in there. 

For other website builders, the procedure will be quite similar. 

Step 1: Copy the code if you created your own website. After that, paste it directly after the opening head tag on each page of your website.

Check to see that Google Analytics is able to run. 

Other Methods To Check For Google Analytics

There are four ways you can use to test whether Google Analytics was correctly configured on your site. The first two methods rely on using Google Analytics only. The third method involves the Goggle Assistant add-on. And the fourth method requires the Google Tag Manager preview mode.

So, let’s start with the first method. 

Step 1: Open Google Analytics. Now navigate to the Admin. You then have to pick Property, Tracking info, Tracking code. 

Step 2: Press the button “Send test traffic.” 

Google Analytics will send a hit to your web resource and pen it in a small pop-up window. If the configuration is successful, the number of active users on-site will change from zero to one. But in case you expect more than one active visitor, then pay special attention to the information provided in brackets. That pertains only to the moment when you are testing if it’s working or not. It should state “including one from the test traffic.” 

The Second Approach 

It has the same logic. But it provides another route you can use to access this information.

Step 1: For the second method, open the Google Analytics real-time overview report.

Step 2: You can then open your website in the next tab of your browser. 

Step 3: Now go back to Google Analytics and see whether it captured your activity on the site. 

If it shows that one active user (i.e., you) entered the web resource from your geographical zone, it’s working.And it’s time to test the third approach using the Google Tag Assistant.

Google Tag Assistant

Google tag assistant is a plug-in that lets you view the text youadded to your site. Also, it tests whether they fire according to the conditions you set for them. It’s available free of charge. To use it:

Step 1: Open the web page you want to perform the testing on.

Step 2: Find the plug-in on the right side of the address bar. You can then click “Enable” and then reload the page.

Step 3: Once the plug-in changes the color, click on it. Also, that way, you’ll see the list of tags it could detect on your web resource.

Google Tag Manager Preview Mode

Now it’s time to move to method number 4. To test whether a Google Analytics tag configured through Google Tag Manager is working properly, follow these steps: 

Step 1: Open Google Tag Manager. Now choose your container. 

Step 2: You can then click the preview button in the right corner of your screen. 

The page will show you a message confirming that you successfully launched the preview mode.

Step 3: Open your site in the next tab of the same browser as your Google Tag Manager.

Step 4: Now refresh it.At the bottom of your screen, you’ll see a little window.

The window will contain a summary of tags fired on this web page. So if you have many pages on your site, you can go through them one by one. The purpose is to check what the Google Analytics tag fired on all of them.
